Volume 32Urgent action is required to support bee communities in their vital role as plant pollinators in the US. This article reviews the growing evidence that the best way to do this is by creating rich floral diversity within and around crop fields. This means reducing pesticide use, tolerating some weed species, maintaining uncultivated patches of land, restoring hedgerows, and managing non-crop areas to support pollinators. It advocates further research on the best ways to do this without reducing overall crop yields.
